Why did you become a physical therapist?

While growing up, I frequently assumed the W-sitting position and skipped crawling altogether. As an adult, my hips continue to give me issues. I understand the importance of addressing asymmetries and developmental delays in childhood and have always loved working with children. As a pediatric physical therapist, I get to “play” for a living! Day in and day out, my kiddos teach me so much about resiliency and determination. Even when the odds are stacked against them, they find ways to prove research and statistics wrong. Improving the lives of children with special healthcare needs is my life’s calling and I strive to be their number one advocate and to help them through all stages of life.

Also while growing up, I watched my grandmother and grandfather live with multiple sclerosis and ALS, respectively. What stuck out to me was how hard they worked to maintain their strength and ability to move. I specialized in treating individuals with multiple sclerosis in PT school and love rehabilitating adults with neurologic diagnoses and identifying innovative and adaptive solutions for them. As a former collegiate track and field athlete, I understand the importance of self-discipline and consistency to maintain level of skill, and I try to relay this message to all of my patients.

What are you involved in your community?

I enjoy participating in ongoing research projects, volunteering with Miracle League and Special Olympics, and providing child care for local families on the weekends.
